Fast track resource consent granted to Sweet New Zealand Co., Limited to build a large housing development in Birkenhead.
After a year of hard work from the project team, we are excited to announce that the Verran Mews fast-track consent application has been granted! The TEL team are grateful to have worked with Sweet New Zealand Co., Limited and its respective project teams to achieve this successful outcome.
The proposal is to construct an Integrated Residential Development (“IRD”) comprised of 91 units, including a mix of terraced houses, apartments, and duplexes on Verran Road and West Glade Crescent, in Birkenhead, Auckland on a 2.58 ha site. The IRD also proposes the development of a community centre (as pictured below), multi-use games area, playground and courtyard/BBQ area. The application was formally lodged with the EPA on 13 December 2023 and the resource consent was granted on 19 September 2024, 129 working days later.
The project is considered an integrated residential development due to the size of the site and the provision of supporting communal facilities as mentioned. The site is part zoned Mixed Housing Suburban and part Single House zone. The Expert Panel highlighted that the development would contribute to a well-functioning urban environment given the variety of homes proposed and its integration into the surrounding environment.
